3 Tricks to Help You Housebreak Your Puppy

Black labradoodle puppies

Housebreaking your chocolate or black labradoodle puppies can be a little bit tricky, but with patience, and a few tricks, you can do it easily. Here are just a few things worth keeping in mind when you housebreak chocolate labradoodle puppies.

Get a Routine Down.

Dogs like black labradoodle puppies are hard-wired not to eliminate in their dens. In other words, they’re predisposed to housebreaking. All you have to do is get them there, which is easier if they’re used to a routine. Take them out right when they wake up, and for a walk about 15 minutes after they’re done eating, as this is when they’re most likely to go to the bathroom. It’s also a good idea to take them out every couple hours, if possible.

Don’t Scold Them.

Scolding black labradoodle puppies for going in the house isn’t a good idea. The idea isn’t to teach them not to eliminate in the house, but rather to eliminate outside. Scolding them will cause them to develop feelings of anxiety over their bathroom issues.

Just Let Them Do Their Business.

Dogs are intuitive, and can feel your energy. If you want them to get their business done and over with, they’ll pick up on your impatience, which will make it harder for them to go. You also shouldn’t tell them to “do their business” or “hurry up,” since this is equally distracting. Instead, just let them do their thing. When they have, praise them. Dogs respond very well to positive reinforcement. Give them a treat, and some attention, and they’ll realize eliminating outside is a good thing.
